August 22, 1967 - Scaffolding collapse at Firefighter demo

On this day in our history in 1967, a huge scaffolding collapse in Colonie during the annual state volunteer fireman's association competition .
On warehouse row, fire trucks were beginning to race when the temporary scaffolding along the road collapsed.
15 people were on the platform, mostly judges and cameramen. There were people beneath it as well.
More than 20 people in all were hurt. 5 were hospitalized but none in serious condition.
Colonie's fire chief said his investigation showed a structural defect and some overloading of the archway, but no evidence of negligence.
