August 13, 1972 - 'Moneymatic' demonstration

Updated: Tuesday, August 13 2013, 09:14 AM EDT

On this day in our history back in 1972, Marine Midland bank opened up a new branch in downtown Albany.

It came with a new, electronic machine they called Moneymatic: an ATM.

We got a demonstration of how it worked.

The Moneymatic required a six-digit code number for the transaction.

If you typed the wrong number in 3 times in a row, it would swallow up your Marine Midland Master Charge card.
