Updated: Friday, August 2 2013, 09:18 PM EDT
The higher price of most groceries, at local supermarkets this month is not much of a surprise after taking a look at our monthly CBS6 consumer index.

The few items, that dropped in price:

  • Butter – Down nearly .30
  • carrots - Down by .60
  • cheese - A big drop -- down by more than $1.50
According to Steve Ammerman with the New York State Farm Bureau tells CBS6 that demand for cheese is down.

Staying the same price this month:
  • Apples
  • Coffee
Groceries costing you more:
  • Milk
  • Orange juice
  • Eggs
  • White rice
  • Ground beef
  • White bread
  • Cheerios

CBS6 has reported for weeks now on how the nationwide drought is affecting food prices.

Ammerman says that is the case here – with the cost of corn, soybeans, hay, and possibly grains rising -- affecting a lot of these products.

He also says last spring's freeze in Florida, is still to blame for the higher orange juice prices.CBS6 Consumer Index Aug. 8
