Saratoga: Top Trainers - 07/24/13

The training game so far at Saratoga starts and ends with Todd Pletcher, but that was to be expected. He is winning with 36% of his starters and finishing in the money with 64%. His total earnings of more than $507K so far is roughly $300K more than the next guy. Three of Pletcher's five wins are Stakes wins.

While Pletcher has done well thus far, the training story of the first four days is Michael Dilger. The former Pletcher assistant started his first horse at Saratoga on Saturday. Wired Bryan in the G-2 Sanford Stakes for 2-year-olds. The NY-Bred Wired Bryan came under the line first for Dilger. It was just the third career training win for Dilger and his first stakes win.

"Sorry, Im hoarse", he said, "I was cheering a little bit. Hes New York bred; there were no restricted stakes races until later on in the year. The timing fit to run him here."

Wired Bryan could be pointed towards the G-1 Hopeful on September 2. Dilger says he hopes to make a decision in the coming days.
