Snow Transitions to Sleet and Freezing Rain Before Midnight - Slick Travel Expected

Snow is now underway across the region with a transition to sleet and freezing rain expected in most locations prior to midnight.  A general 2"-4" of snow accumluation is likely with pockets of 3"-6" in the southern Adirondacks, Lake George-Saratoga Region, Vermont, the Berkshires, and the Taconics prior to midnight with up to 0.10" of a glaze of icing on top of the snow.  The storm is a fast mover with the most if not all of the precipitation over by or shortly before daybreak.  Slow and slick travel conditions should be expected through the pre-dawn hours with much improved road conditions by the Wednesday morning commute.

Saratoga Coverage Plan - 07/06/13

Saratoga Coverage Plan

I have taken the last few weeks off to brainstorm ways to best cover the upcoming racing meet at Saratoga. To celebrate 150 years at the storied track I have come up with an ambitious, yet highly entertaining and all encompassing plan for the six week racing season. Here is what we will be working on:

Mondays, The Chalk will take a closer look at the jockeys. We will have updated rider standings and highlight certain rider angles to play throughout the week.

There is no racing on Tuesdays. We will come back on Wednesdays to discuss the leading trainers -- who had a successful week and which horses have been out early in the morning working towards an upcoming race.

Thursdays we will go inside the mind of The Chalk -- what are we looking at to handicap these races and what types of trends are out there that we can all take advantage of. Fridays we won't hold anything back with our 'Pick Of The Day'. We will preview the weekend stakes races and wagering strategies. Plus there will be a new addition to The Chalk, Photo Fridays. Our best shots of the week will be posted for you to take a look at.

On Saturdays The Chalk will provide full card selections and showcase some of the 150th Anniversary events going on at the track and around town. Another round of selections, stakes previews and recaps will close out the week plus The Chalk plans to add a video segment posted after the races on Sunday nights. The Chalk will feature horses, jockeys, trainers and local handicappers throughout the racing season.

Join us for the ride each week as we explore Saratoga and its history. Follow us on twitter @TheChalkBlog for updates and breaking news from the track.
