KD 139 - Top 10 times for final 1/4 mile - 04/25/13

The field for the 139th running of the Kentucky Derby is not set in stone just yet. Titletown Five, with a win Saturday in the Derby Trial can sneak into the field. However, we know most of the starters already so began putting together a list. It is my first list for handicapping the Derbyfinal 1/4 mile times. This is critical because it will tell you who potentially has enough gas left in the tank to get 10 furlongs. Right now, I have the Top 10 closing times from the latest prep race, plus an added wrinkle. I included the Late Speed Rating (LSR) courtesy of Derek Simon over at Twin Spires. Time is in seconds and the LSR is in ().

  1. Verrazano 12 3/5(-6)
  2. Overanalyze12 3/5(-8)
  3. Revolutionary12 3/5(-6)
  4. Mylute12 3/5(-7)
  5. Governor Charlie12 3/5(-12)
  6. Vyjack12 4/5(-2)
  7. Normandy Invasion12 4/5(-3)
  8. Goldencents13(-11)
  9. Java's War13(-5)
  10. Palace Malice13(-8)
If you are unfamiliar with LSR, the lower the number the better. A good barometer is -10, that is 'Fair'. This is just the first in a long line of lists I'm sure to come up with between now and May 4th. Remember to follow me on Twitter... @TheChalkBlog. Good Luck!
