Poll: NYers approve of guns but not using public money in campaigns - 04/17/13

A new Quinnipiac Poll shows Governor Andrew Cuomo's approval ratings below 60%, a majority of New Yorkers are opposed to using public funds in campaigns and a majority of New Yorker's support new gun control laws in the state.

The poll, released Wednesday, shows Governor Cuomo's approval rating is 57%, up 2% from last month but down 17% from December.

The poll also questions New Yorkers about the job the state legislature is doing. 30% say they approve of their job.

On the heels of a push for campaign finance reform, where the governor is calling for public funds to be used to match smaller private donations, just 37% of New Yorkers say they would support using taxpayer dollars in campaigns. Conversely, 53% say they oppose it.

On the issue of guns the poll shows 63% of New York residents say they support stricter gun control laws in the state.
