Woman's fall from Berkshire County hotel balcony being investigated
UPDATED July 6, 2010
Charges against Geshlider have been dropped, and the case has been dismissed, the Berkshire County DA says.
A woman has been hospitalized after she fell from the third-floor balcony of her hotel room in Berkshire County, Mass.
The 34-year-old woman from Brooklyn, N.Y. was a guest at the Red Lion Inn in Stockbridge over the weekend, according to Berkshire County D.A. David Capeless, and was found in the parking lot below the third-floor balcony of her room early Sunday morning.
The woman was taken to Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield, then transferred to the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in Worcester, where she was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit in critical condition. Her status has since been upgraded to serious, but she is continuing treatment for injuries in the fall, said Capeless.
The D.A. said it appeared the woman's fall was an accident, but was still waiting to talk to the woman to find out how exactly she ended up in the parking lot.
Investigation into the woman's fall did lead to the arrest of the woman's boyfriend, 46-year-old Paul Geshlider of Brooklyn. He was charged with assault and battery in connection with a separate incident that had occurred earlier in the evening.
Geshlider pleaded not guilty in Great Barrington District Court Monday; he was released on $1,000 cash bail. He is due back in court Feb. 12th.
