UPDATE: Local basketball star arrested for cocaine

A local basketball star was arrested Wednesday night in Troy for drug possession.
Tiki Mayben, 22, is facing two separate drug cases, according to Rensselaer County District Attorney Richard McNally -- the first in city court, the other in county court.
Mayben was arrested by Troy police on an indictment for drug sales. He was in possession of crack cocaine at the time of his arrest, said Troy Police.
The county indictment consists of an indictment unsealed Thursday morning charging Mayben with cocaine possession with intent to sell.
Mayben has pleaded not guilty on all counts.
Mayben was arrested when police came upon him on King Street between Jacob and Federal Streets at 8 p.m., according to the department. Police said he was in possession of 3.4 grams of cocaine and charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third and fifth degrees, both felonies.
Troy Police had a two-count indictment for Mayben for third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance. His arrest was the result of a three-month investigation by the Special Operations Section of the Troy Police.
Mayben graduated from Troy High School in 2005 and played for the University of Massachusetts. According to Syracuse University's newspaper, the Daily Orange, he failed to make the cut academically after signing with the SU men's basketball team as a teen.
Mayben also played for Hudson Valley Community College and was most recently a guard on the SUNY Binghamton team, playing as a fifth-year student. He attended the College of Community and Public Affairs and has a one-year-old son, according to his biography on Binghamton's Web site.
Mayben was held at the Troy police station overnight and was arraigned Thursday morning at the Troy City Criminal Court. He's due in court for a preliminary hearing next Tuesday.
