School Enrollment: Downward Trend
The Averill Park Board of Education discussed their financial future Tuesday night.
Due to a cut in state aid as proposed in Governor Paterson's executive budget, and a decrease in enrollment of 100 students, Superintendent, Dr. Josephine Moccia said it's a strong possibility that 26 faculty members could lose their jobs in the spring.
The decreased enrollment at Averill Park, got the CBS 6 Factfinder curious if other districts in the Capital Region, were facing a similar problem.
Marci Natale made some calls and she found out that enrollment is also down in: Amsterdam, Bethlehem, Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake, East Greenbush, and Ballston Spa.
Enrollment is up in Schenectady and Shenendehowa.
All of the decreases in enrollment are relatively small.
Enrollment figures are based on birth rates and in and out migration.
