Employee, source: Dozens to be laid off in Fulton County

JOHNSTOWN -- Nearly 250 people will lose their job at Finkle Distributors, Inc. in Fulton County under the management of a new company, an employee and a well-placed source told Steve Flamisch on Friday.

Core-Mark Holding Company, Inc. announced last week an agreement to buy Finkle -- a long-time candy, tobacco and grocery item distributor -- for $43 million.

Earlier this week, according to an employee, staff members were told that many of them would soon be losing their job.

A long-time Fulton County source told Flamisch that Core-Mark would reduce the current staff level of 280 employees to no more than 40 people when a sublease ends in four months.

An employee told Flamisch some long-time employees broke down in tears upon hearing the news.

Core-Mark would not confirm the layoff announcement.

If it’s true, it would be the forth major round of layoffs in the last three years for the area.
