Cuomo announces settlement with Tagged.com

NEW YORK -- Tagged.com has adopted reforms on the use of invitation e-mails.

New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo previously alleged that the California based social networking site essentially stole the identities of some 60 million Internet users by raiding private accounts.

Tagged said Monday that most of those invited "either joined or declined graciously" while a "small but vocal minority" complained about its "recruitment efforts."

Tagged said it had also reached an agreement with Texas.

The San Francisco-based company said it voluntarily proposed reforms and is "thrilled" the dispute is over. Cuomo said Tagged won't access contacts or send messages without the member's informed permission. It also will provide clear and conspicuous disclosures. It will pay $500,000 in penalties and costs to New York.
