Moldy classrooms at Averill Park High evacuated for cleaning
AVERILL PARK -- The Averill Park school district says it's found mold in two classrooms at the high school and is meeting with contractors to plan for removal of the mold.
School officials brought in environmental health specialists to investigate a "strong, musty odor" in two classrooms at the high school Friday. Test results returned positive for mold.
The rooms are habitable, but the district says it's taking extra precaution and has evacuated all rooms in the area. Classroom relocation should allow for a smoother clean-up process, the district says.
State health officials are also assisting in the clean-up process, which has already begun.
Updates and progress reports will be available on the school district's website.
