Rachel Alexandra to run at Saratoga next month
LEXINGTON, KY -- The 2009 Horse of the Year, Rachel Alexandra, will run at Saratoga in the Grade I Personal Ensign Stakes on Aug. 29.
"Rachel feels very much at home among the great Saratoga fans," said co-owner Jess Jackson in a release. "The timing is right for Rachel. She's been coming back into her stride and this will help her prepare for the rest of her campaign and the Breeders’ Cup later this year."
The race, named in honor of a bay filly who was an undefeated winner of 13 races, is a mile-and-a-quarter in length -- longer than Rachel Alexandra has run before.
To date, the longest race of her career was the mile-and-three-sixteenths Preakness.
"The whole team is excited to have Rachel back at Saratoga preparing for this Grade 1 race," said trainer Steve Asmussen. "We all love the track and the fans at Saratoga, perhaps none more then Rachel herself."
