Delmar Road Named After Fallen Soldier
He was a local soldier who did not make it back home to his wife and daughter from Iraq. Now he has received a rare tribute from the state of New York, a road named in his honor.
In one of his final public ceremonies in office Governor George Pataki signed legislation honoring a local man who died in Iraq this spring. A section of Route 140 in Delmar near Route 85 now bears the name of Tim Moshier. Pataki said, "This is something we don't do that often, we only do it for special individuals on a limited basis." Pataki called Moshier a true hero for those in New York.
Moshier was killed when his helicopter crashed last April in Iraq. He left behind a wife and a young daughter Natalie. Tim Moshier ws baptized and had his first communion, confirmation, wedding and burial all in the same church in Delmar.
The naming of the road in his memory is something his family could not have anticipated. Moshier's parents, Mary Ellen and Jim, say they are still very sad, but events like this have helped them. They say they draw strength from these types of events.
His widow, Katie Moshier says, "It was a beautiful tribute to Tim and to all the men who have fallen before, it's a lasting tribute."
