NY to require carbon monoxide detectors in most homes

WRGB

Starting later this month, New York State will require most homes to have at least one carbon monoxide detector.

The law is known as Amanda's Law, and is named for a Buffalo girl who died last year of carbon monoxide poisoning.

It takes effect on February 22.

The new law will require homes to have a CO detector on each floor, or each floor with a working appliance.

Homes that do not have CO emitting appliances or sources are exempt from the law.

You can find more information on carbon monoxide here: http://www.dos.state.ny.us/fire/firewww.html
