Starting later this month, New York State will require most homes to have at least one carbon monoxide detector.
The law is known as Amanda's Law, and is named for a Buffalo girl who died last year of carbon monoxide poisoning.
It takes effect on February 22.
The new law will require homes to have a CO detector on each floor, or each floor with a working appliance.
Homes that do not have CO emitting appliances or sources are exempt from the law.
