Jerry Gretzinger
Anchor and Reporter
CBS 6 viewers can find Jerry on the anchor desk weekday evenings starting at 5pm. He first joined the team in 2002 as a reporter and in 2004 was promoted to weekend news anchor. In June of 2007, he was chosen to succeed retiring local news legend, Jack Aernecke.
Jerry has worked throughout the northeast and traveled around the world to bring the news home. Jerry is equally adept at breaking the big stories and creatively crafting light hearted features.
He has won several journalism awards for his reports, but is most proud of the story he did on his own battle with cancer. Cameras were rolling as Jerry was diagnosed with and treated for testicular cancer. The decision to share so much personal information was difficult, but Jerry knew it had the potential to help others. He received a nomination from The Associated Press for best news series and got hundreds of emails from Capital Region residents, thanking him for sharing his story.
Jerry is very involved with the community and co-hosts the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital Telethon and the Labor Day Muscular Dystrophy Telethon. He also plays a big part in the annual "Adopt an Angel" campaign for the Make-a-Wish Foundation and has worked with the Arthritis Foundation.
From time to time, viewers have even caught Jerry on stage, performing in local productions of big Broadway musicals. Jerry was raised in Kingston and graduated from Marist College in Poughkeepsie, NY. He lives in Saratoga County with his wife, Paula, and their three wonderful children, Jerry, Nicole and Isabella.
