CBS 6 EXCLUSIVE: Governor's staffers getting pay raises
ALBANY -- One day after the Legislature approved Governor David Paterson's furlough plan for state workers, CBS 6 has learned that people in the Governor's office are getting raises.
The Governor is ordering 100,000 state workers to take a 20-percent pay cut each week there's no state budget deal.
But just today, CBS 6 News has learned five-figure raises for executive chamber staffers were processed in the state comptroller's office.
Here's the rundown of the figures obtained from the comptroller's office:
+ Jessica Bassett, from $65,000 to $75,000
+ Anna Adams-Sarthou, from $35,000 to $45,000
+ Melanie Hartgraves, from $38,000 to $45,000
+ Margaret-Kelly McKeon, from $65,000 to $75,000
+ Elizabeth Banner, from $55,000 to $60,000
At least four of the five staffers works in the Governor's press office.
The Governor's press secretary Morgan Hook said the raises were part of promotions, and after the departure of several high-salaried workers, overall salary expenditure in the press office is actually down $300,000.
There is a chance that there are other executive chamber pay raises that are in the pipeline but haven't shown up yet in the Comptroller's office.
