Spitzer Will Not Resign Today; Paterson at Capitol

Lieutenant Governor David Paterson arrived at the state capitol mid-Tuesday afternoon but has otherwise done little to indicate he'll be taking over the governor's office anytime soon.

Paterson has not addressed the media since Governor Spitzer made a public apology yesterday afternoon about a "private matter," understood to be a reference to allegations of Spitzer's link to an international prostitute ring.

The lieutenant governor will step into the position of governor if Spitzer resigns. Sources say Paterson has been quietly preparing to make the transition since the possibility of Spitzer's resignation was raised yesterday.

Governor Spitzer's top aides have told the New York Times they expect the governor to resign his office, but did not expect he would make that announcement today.

Jennifer at the Governors office tells CBS 6 there is no announcement from the Governor today.
