UPDATE: Plow truck worker dies in collision with train
NORTHUMBERLAND -- A plow truck operator has died in a collision with a train as the season's first major winter storm socks upstate New York with heavy, blowing snow.
Sixty-eight-year-old James Shea, a part-time Highway Department worker manning the truck's wing plow, was killed in the 8:45 a.m. crash when the train struck the truck as it was crossing the railroad tracks on Saunders Road, according to the Saratoga County Sheriff's Office.
The driver of the plow truck, 53-year-old Kerry Garnsey, was taken to Glens Falls Hospital with head and chest injuries.
The 41-car train originating from Saratoga Springs was bound for Rouse's Point, N.Y.
The treacherous driving conditions are blamed for numerous accidents across the state.
