Menands man suffers thru swine flu

"I've been fighting this H1N1 flu but I've gotta get back to work, I need the money."

Twenty two year old Adrian Teasley of Menands has spent the last six days struggling through the Swine Flu, an illness that has already taken at least two lives in the Capital Region.

Teasley tells CBS 6 News his symptoms began last Friday when he became violently nauseous while at his job at the Morgan Linen company in Albany.  He says the vomiting continued through much of the day Saturday as other symptoms took control.

He described a severe lack of energy combined with intense sweating as well as shivering cold as he lay under blankets.  Teasley said even his eyes were hurting.

On Monday of this week, unable to go to work, Adrian says his employers told him not to return to work without a doctor's clearance.  Because he has no health insurance Adrian went to a walk-in clinic called 'Prime Care' off of Washington Avenue Extension.  He says he had to pay $100 dollars up front in order to see a doctor.

Teasley said a doctor ..who wore a mask while examining him....told him he could not return to his employment until 24 hours after his fever broke. And that if the vomiting returned he should come back to the clinic. But Teasley said he could not afford a second $100 dollar fee and planned to go to a local hospital emergency room.

The young man is praying that somehow the illness will subside so that he can go back to work.  He is not getting paid for the days he's been sick and the ordeal has drained his spirit, his health,as well as his wallet.

As of Wednesday afternoon , as he began to feel slightly better,Teasley was hoping that somehow he might be able to go back to Morgan Linen on Thursday morning.  But he was not optimistic, saying "H1N1 has been tough."
