Sharing the road, bicycles and motorcycles out in full force
ALBANY -- Drivers, make room and watch out. Warm weather has bikers hitting the roads around the Capital Region.
June is Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month, and riders are being reminded to wear helmets and bright colors along with using bike lights. Drivers are being told to keep their eyes on the road, and to expect to see bikers in their lanes.
New York State DMV Commissioner David Swarts says bicyclists should also take steps to avoid collisions with cars. Bicyclists are required to follow the common rules of the road. That means moving in the same direction as traffic, stopping at stop signs and red lights, as well as signaling when turning. Those over the age of 14 are not required to wear a helmet.
