Confirmed earthquake in Albany County

The US Geological Survey has confirmed a 2.9 magnitude “micro earthquake” with an epicenter about five miles south of Berne in Albany County.

It struck just after 9:30 p.m. Tuesday more than four miles below the surface, according to data collected by the Lamont-Doherty Cooperative Seismographic Network.

It was close enough to the surface for at least one CBS 6 viewer to write in from neighboring Schoharie County saying his house shook and that he could hear "a boom sound."

A quake of similar size in the same area, though much deeper underground, back in May was felt as far away as Saratoga County.

If you felt the quake, let us know in the Comments section below.
