Man runs boat aground at yacht club; arrested for boating while intoxicated
COEYMANS -- Police arrested a Feura Bush man Sunday night while responding to an accident in which a boat ran aground at the Tri-City Yacht Club.
Coeymans Police and other emergency crews responded to the accident at about 10 p.m. July 24, and found a 21-foot vessel aground on the rocks in the Hudson River near the entrance to the club, according to Coeymans Police.
The Coeymans Fire Company was able to successfully remove two stranded boaters from the vessel. No one was injured.
The operator of the boat, 58-year-old Michael Willwerth, was given field sobriety tests once he was safely on shore, and was found to have a blood alcohol level of .21, nearly three times the legal .08 level.
Willwerth has been issued a series of tickets and is scheduled to appear in court on August 19th.
