UPDATE: Flames sweep through Ashland Town Hall, Fire Department
ASHLAND -- Fire ripped through the Ashland Town Hall and Fire Department on Route 23 in Greene County Sunday morning.
Someone spotted the fire just before 6 a.m. and crews from all over the area moved in to battle the flames.
The building houses the fire department trucks and ambulance and there is damage to the four fire trucks and the ambulance.
But the building is not just a fire house, its the town center and it held some important things -- that luckily crews were able to save.
The town clerk told CBS 6 the history of the town housed in the building -- documents dating all the way back to the 1740’s like records of births, deaths, marriages, divorces -- were all saved.
Ashland has another ambulance so they'll still be able to handle medical calls -- as for fire calls, other communities in the area will have to cover them for now.
